Greatest Stories Featuring the Hulk Family
Did you know that there are several versions of the Hulk in the Marvel comic books? Currently, in the MCU there is the Hulk, She-Hulk, and the soon-to premiere Red Hulk. However, there are several Hulk-themed characters in the so-called Hulk family of characters.
Hulk Family
Everyone knows that Bruce Banner is the Hulk. That was common knowledge long before Mark Ruffalo became a household name. However, the Red Hulk, Red She-Hulk, Korean Hulk Amadeus Cho, and warrior son of the Hulk, Skarr, have existed in Marvel Comics for decades. And that is just a few, there are actually a few more Hulk family members.
Here is a list of five comic book stories featuring members of the Hulk Family.
1. World War Hulk Omnibus
This story is legendary within the canon of Hulk family stories. In Marvel Comics, a shadow group of superheroes called the Illuminati meets in secret locations to make decisions that affect the world and the superheroes of Earth. This group includes members like Prof. X, Black Bolt, Namor, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Reed Richards.
After the Hulk nearly kills the Thing in a destructive fight that almost levels a city, the Illuminati decides that the Hulk is too dangerous to remain on Earth. The Illuminati set up the Hulk to be put on a spaceship and banished into space. The ship travels off course and banishes the Hulk on a planet where he becomes a slave and gladiator.
The Hulk falls in love, becomes a gladiator hero, and even sires a son named Skarr. The Hulk then finds a way to come home and take his revenge on the Illuminati. This story inspired 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. This 1,300-page omnibus features the full World War Hulk story and every tie-in story connected to it.

2. Hulk Modern Era Epic Collection: Who is The Red Hulk?
It is not a secret or a spoiler to reveal that General Thaddeus Ross, now played by Harrison Ford in the MCU, is the Red Hulk. Red Hulk is a nearly identical version of the green Hulk except that he retains Ross’ intelligence and is more sadistic. Red Hulk can also emit large amounts of heat and absorb energy.
The character debuted in 2008 as a big mystery and a new threat to Earth’s heroes. Red Hulk is now a very popular member of the Hulk family and has been featured in several team-based MArvel comics, Thunderbolts. Red Hulk will debut in 2025’s Captain America: Brave New World.
This 440-page trade paperback features the first 12 issues of Hulk and several contemporary tie-in issues. Get the paperback for $35.72 at Amazon now.
3. Red She-Hulk 1: Hell Hath No Fury
Comic book canon and lore can back multiple decades and be too convoluted and confusing for new fans to understand. For example, did you know that there are two She-Hulks in Marvel Comics? The extensive Hulk family tree of characters also includes Red She-Hulk, a female Hulk version of Betty Ross.
Betty Ross is the love interest of Bruce Banner and the daughter of General Thaddeus Ross. In the 2008 to 2013 era of Hulk comics, Betty Ross became ill and was experimented on to save her life. The experiment saved her life but also caused her to become Red She-Hulk.
This 122-page paperback collects all of the Hulk stories where Red She-Hulk premiered and repackages it as a Red She-Hulk trade. Get it now for $13.81 at Amazon.
4. Amadeus Cho: Genius At Work (The Totally Awesome Hulk: 2015-2017)
Amadeus Cho is a young Korean-American scientist and one of the smartest people on Earth. He is also a member of the extended Hulk family, although he is practically unknown to casual comic book fans. Using a device to siphon off the excess gamma radiation that was putting Bruce Banner in danger, Amadeus Cho became a Hulk himself.
Cho has all the powers of the Hulk but also retains his intelligence and control of his emotions. After a series of family tragedies, Cho strives to solve these mysteries as the Totally Awesome Hulk. Get this 109-page trade paperback for $7.99 at Amazon now.
5. Hulk: Skaar, Son Of Hulk
Skarr is the son of Hulk and was sired on planet Sakarr during the World War Hulk storyline. (There are actually multiple versions of Skaar in the comics.) Skarr debuted in live-action in the 2022 Disney+ show She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in a non-speaking role.
After his father left Sakarr to go back to Earth to get his revenge on the Illuminati, Skarr was left to his own devices to mature, become a warrior, and deal with the politics and violence of his world. This is a fan-favorite character in the Hulk family canon. Get the 192-page hardcover for $19.99 at Amazon now.
